Radio Frequency Identification: Technology for contactless identification of objects via radio, using a transmitter (transponder) and a reader. The transponder stores unique, identifying data that the receiver retrieves via an electromagnetic field and passes on for processing. The technology can be used in the laboratory environment, e.g. for samples, sampling points or materials.
