Functional specification: In software projects, this document specifies in detail how the software is to fulfill the functionality required by the user. For the software developer, it serves as a guideline for how the application is to be implemented in terms of features, appearance, and user interaction. In the case of implementing a LIMS, the provider uses this to formalize the customer’s requirements specification (specification sheet) in a formal document, taking into account the features and capabilities of the underlying LIMS product.
