Functional specification: defines in detail in software projects how the functionality required by the user is to be fulfilled by the software. For the software developer, it is a specification of how the application is to be implemented in terms of features, appearance and user interaction. In the case of the introduction of a LIMS, the provider thus concretizes the customer's requirements specification (specification sheet) in a formal document, taking into account the properties and capabilities of the underlying LIMS product.
