In an interview with LABO, Dr. Janina Bolling of the SPECTARIS trade association discussed the most important developments and challenges in the laboratory industry:
A major achievement was the release of LADS OPC UA, a new standard for laboratory communication that enables cross-vendor integration of devices and software. The biggest challenges remain regulatory in nature.
The industry is currently shaped by digital transformation, particularly the automation of processes, efficient data management, and cybersecurity. Sustainability and resource conservation also play an important role.
Looking ahead, Dr. Bolling plans to further develop LADS OPC UA and focus on robotics and AI to optimize laboratory processes and integrate new technologies. Projects in the areas of sustainability and startups are also planned.
