Transmission Control Protocol(TCP) / Internet Protocol(IP): TCP/IP is a family of standardized network protocols that cover the switching and transport of data packets in a network (e.g. LAN, WAN). The TCP/IP reference model relevant for the Internet consists of four layers (network, Internet, transport and application layer) that build on each other. The IP protocol is responsible for sending (routing) the data packets, while TCP is responsible for the secure delivery of the data.
