Processcontrolsystem: IT system to support production processes with a focus on process engineering procedures, e.g. in a large chemical plant. The functionality essentially comprises control and regulation functions for plant components (e.g. actuators/controllers), real-time data acquisition (e.g. from sensors including visualization for the operator) and alarm functions. In addition, they usually also allow the recorded data to be saved and offer additional evaluation functions. In the English-speaking world, the systems are often referred to as DCS (distributed control system) or PCS (process control system).
