Process control system: An IT system designed to support production processes, with a focus on process engineering operations, such as those in a large-scale chemical plant. Its functionality primarily includes control and regulation functions for plant components (e.g., actuators and controllers), real-time data acquisition (e.g., from sensors, including visualization for the operator), and alarm functions. In addition, they usually allow for the storage of the collected data and offer additional analysis functions. In the Anglo-Saxon world, these systems are often referred to as DCS (distributed control system) or PCS (process control system).
