A data model is a model of the data to be described and processed within a specific domain (e.g., data from the production area, the laboratory, or the entire corporate data set) and the relationships between them. In the development of information systems such as LIMS, data models and the activities carried out to create them (data modeling) serve to identify and define the structure for the data to be processed and stored in the systems.
