Researchers have trained an AI system to predict potential active compounds with specific properties. To do this, they used a chemical language model—a kind of ChatGPT for molecules. After a training phase, the AI was able to generate the chemical structural formulas of compounds that might be suitable as particularly effective drugs.
These days, you don’t have to be a poet to delight your grandmother with a poem on her 90th birthday: A short prompt in ChatGPT is enough, and within seconds the AI spits out a long list of words that rhyme with the birthday girl’s name. Upon request, it can even generate a sonnet. Researchers at the University of Bonn have implemented a similar model in their study—a chemical language model.
