Transaction data is information that—unlike master data—changes rapidly over time. For example, the sample descriptions and target dates are different for each new laboratory order from a customer. Customer data is master data, while sample data is transaction data and must therefore be re-entered in the LIMS for each new order. In addition, there is the concept of inventory data (e.g., the inventory of open orders or invoices). Once processing is complete, the data can be deleted or archived (archived data).
